How to Pack for Christmas Moves 2009/10
The hustle and bustle of Christmas 2009 may challenge moving preparations more than ever. Buying presents, packing belongings, stocking on moving supplies – there is so much to do when preparing for Christmas as well as for your move that staying focused can become a difficult task. With only one day to go, Moving Company NJ offers last minute Christmas moving tips:
1. Are you still shopping for last minute gifts? If possible try and collect moving boxes on the way. Stock up on moving supplies while shopping for your Christmas gifts.
2. Organization is key factor for packing simplification. Place in each room boxes, tape, markers and labels ready for packing day.
3. Create a color code system for the benefit of your movers and your family. Assign each room a color – blue labeled boxes for your kitchen and green marked boxes for the bathroom. Instead of cramming the front hall of your new home with boxes that you then have to move to the right room – you can direct movers to place blue boxes in the kitchen, green boxes in the bathroom, and so on.
4. Pack each room at a time for your residential moving day. Pack infrequently used items first and work your way to frequently used items. Assign on top of each sealed box a number, color and contents description. Number boxes containing infrequently used items 1, 2, 3 and frequently used items 4, 5, 6, etc. Once unpacking in your new home, know which box contains what just by looking at the label – saving you precious time in opening several boxes when looking for a certain object. Additionally start unpacking from high numbered boxes to low numbered boxes - i.e. from frequently used items to infrequently used items.
5. Form an inventory list of your numbered boxes. When movers unload your belongings you can check that everything arrived by ticking off your inventory list according to numbers on boxes.
